I finally saw Somewhere the other day and though it was just alright. I know it’s meant to a critique of that lifestyle but shit, it still could have had a bit more happening. I find it hard to care at all what happens to Dorff’s character. The best bit for me was Elle Fanning, without her the whole movie would have sucked. She was subtle and convincing. The only cool songs were...

Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi (”The Circle,” “Offside,” “The White Balloon”) has been sentenced to six years in prison in addition to a year twenty year ban from making any films, writing any scripts, travelling abroad and conducting interviews. The news was confirmed to the Iranian press by his lawyer Farideh Gheyrat who plans to appeal the decision. In July 2009, Panahi was arrested...

Ricky Gervais may have a sordid past with a failed pop group. But hey he was giving it a go. I think he’s quite bright, here’s a recent essay he wrote on atheism.
A Holiday Message from Ricky Gervais: Why I’m An Atheist
Why don’t you believe in God? I get that question all the time. I always try to give a sensitive, reasoned answer. This is usually awkward, time consuming and...

“What are the differences between Mark Zuckerberg and me? I give private information on corporations to you for free, and I’m a villain. Zuckerberg gives your private information to corporations for money and he’s Man of the Year.” — Julian Assange on SNL

I just read the greatest Clint Eastwood quote:
I always wanted to spend my twilight years being regarded as a grizzled embittered curmudgeonly old bastard, but instead it’s all goddam lifetime achievement awards and the French adding me to their Legion of Honour. Have none of these assholes seen ‘Paint Your Wagon’ or ‘Space Cowboys’? I used to co-star with an orangutan for Christ’s sake!’

His observation perhaps reflected his father Keith Murdoch’s expose that Australian troops were being needlessly sacrificed by incompetent British...

Finally saw the first moving images of the Tree Of Life, it’s a shitty cam version but it doesn’t matter. It’s only a couple of minutes but you can see the tone of it. Apparently the trailer’s going to be attached to prints of Black Swan, so we’ll have to wait for that to see it properly.
I don’t think i’ve ever been so excited about a movie. Looks like...
