Billed variously as “Miss Technicolor” and “The Classy Lassy with the Tattooed Chassis,” the Australian Cindy Ray toured in Australia and New Zealand in the early sixites, then learned to tattoo and has been working ever since. Now seventy, she goes by her birth name, Bev Nicholas, and works weekends at Moving Pictures Tattoo Studio, near Melbourne, where she has been tattooing for over forty years. Sergei Vasiliev
Taken between 1989 and 1993, Sergei Vasiliev’s photographs of Soviet prisoners document the secret code language of criminals in the USSR, evidence of a gritty spirit of picaresque resistance within a violently repressive culture.

Wiki: Olive Oatman (1837 – March 20, 1903) was a woman from Illinois who was famously abducted by a Native American tribe (likely the Yavapai people), then sold to another tribe (the Mohave people). She ultimately regained her freedom five years later. The story resonated in the media, partly owing to the prominent blue tattooing of Oatman’s face by her captors.

Artist Vincent Myers tattoos Wendy, age 72, in his shop in Finksburg, Maryland, on March 21, 2012. “Vinnie” Myers specializes in tattooing nipples and areolas onto women who have undergone breast cancer surgery. Using precisely mixed pigments, he creates a perfect 3-D illusion of the real thing, and in doing so, enables women who have undergone mastectomies to feel more like women once again. On average, it takes Myers two hours to complete his work, during which he will determine the color and size of the areolas of each patient. Photo: Fabienne Faur/AFP/Getty Images
